Oliver Peoples Spectacles.

United by their eyewear, celebrities the world over have become enamored with the iconic brand.  Famed for exceptional quality, hardwearing durability and rounded shapes, Oliver Peoples’ reputation has been built around 30 years of exceptional design acumen and here at Chelsea Eye Centre we are proud to be one of the UK’s official Oliver Peoples frames stockists.

Oliver Peoples’ star-studded story began in 1986, when founder Larry Leight purchased an extensive collection of vintage handmade American spectacles at an auction.  The hoard included frames from legendary United States-born brands such as American Optical and Bausch & Lomb, featuring an array of stunning rimless, metal and clip on varieties, lenses, tools and a single receipt signed ‘Oliver Peoples’.  Larry and his brother Dennis partnered to form a company named in the mystery owner’s honour.  Their first breakthrough collection was inspired by this original vintage selection, spawning a heritage aesthetic that still pervades to this day.

The Leight brothers soon opened up an eyewear boutique in West Hollywood, Los Angeles where they quickly drew the attention of the A-list elite.  But the brand’s exponential rise to fame began a year later in 1987, when Larry Leight designed a bespoke frame for Andy Warhol to wear on the cover of Vogue magazine.  Since this milestone, the designer has since become one of the most revered eyewear brands on the planet, splashed across fashion editorial spreads, celebrated by Time Magazine and featured in the seminal film American Psycho as the specs-of-choice for antihero Patrick Bateman.  In fact, Oliver Peoples has become so iconic that the brand doesn’t use a logo on its frames, instead relying on minimalist design and detail to create an instantly recognizable collection.

Oliver Peoples spectacles are still designed and handcrafted out of its West Hollywood HQ and studio, and the brand’s Californian origins infuse every pair of frames, channeling sophisticated yet preppy style.  Finding inspiration in movies, books, archive, music and travel, Oliver Peoples collections draw on Los Angeles’ unique culture.

The result?  Timeless frames in a natural tortoiseshell palette that complement each individual wearer’s creativity, curiosity and entrepreneurial spirit.  Here are a few of our team’s firm favourites from the latest stunning collection at Chelsea Eye Centre, one of the UK’s Oliver Peoples frames stockists…
